Mike Williamson credited the players for MK Dons’ consecutive league victories, highlighting their talent and determination as the driving force behind the team’s success rather than his own tactics.
In their 3-2 win against Swindon Town at Stadium MK, Max Dean opened the scoring with his sixth goal of the season, but Swindon’s Jake Young leveled the score on 59 minutes. Warren O’Hora then scored a fantastic left-footed strike, and Alex Gilbey’s tenacity led to an own goal by Swindon’s George McEachran. Frazer Blake-Tracy pulled one back for Swindon in stoppage time.
Williamson, who took over as head coach only 11 days ago, emphasized that he had limited time to implement his methods during this busy two-week period. He attributed the team’s success to the players’ raw talent and determination, stating that they deserve the credit for returning the club to winning ways.
He said, “I’m happy with the result. Again, I feel similar to Tuesday, where it’s the raw talent and desire of the lads which has got us the win today. There were a lot of things I saw which we can look at and improve on, but two wins on the bounce is fantastic, and the lads deserve a lot of credit for it. There have been some phenomenal performances, really brave ones. We have to keep working with them to help them understand what we want. Everything we’re asking them to do, they’re responding tenfold. It shows you the willingness and how together the group is.”
Although Swindon presented a tough challenge, Williamson acknowledged their strength as a League Two side. He noted that his team had to endure a challenging match, especially in terms of winning back possession, but he praised the intensity and determination of his players.
Williamson stated, “We had to suffer a lot today, which is a credit to Swindon, their manager, and how they like to play. They’re a lot further along their journey than we are. They made it hard for us out of possession. In the first half, we were so desperate to win the ball back, our decision-making was sometimes debatable, but I liked the intensity. We’ve got to refine this big ball of energy that is the group and keep making progress.”
