In a recent game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid had a breakthrough performance for the Buffalo Bills, showcasing his ability to stretch the field and securing his first career touchdown. Quarterback Josh Allen has expressed his eagerness to witness more of Kincaid’s contributions and hopes to see him take on a more significant role, considering that the team traded up in the draft’s first round to acquire him.
Dalton Kincaid’s Rise with the Bills Following a relatively slow start to his NFL career, Kincaid has made notable progress in the past two games, making a total of 13 receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown. In the matchup against the Buccaneers, he stood out with five catches for 65 yards, including a remarkable sideline catch on a crucial third down, and a touchdown in the second quarter.
Josh Allen had high praise for Kincaid, commending his poised and professional demeanor, likening it to that of a seasoned veteran. Allen emphasized his growing trust in Kincaid and the anticipation of their continued collaboration. He envisions a more extensive role for Kincaid within the team’s offense as the season unfolds.
“His approach has been fantastic. The trust that I have in him is gonna continue to grow, and we’re gonna continue to talk about things, things that I see, whether it’s body language or where I see a route going. I thought he stepped up to the challenge, and we’re going to have to get him more involved in the offense as the season goes by,” Allen remarked.
An Opportunity for Kincaid Kincaid finds himself in a favorable position with veteran tight end Dawson Knox placed on injured reserve after undergoing wrist surgery. The team decided against adding another tight end to the roster, opting to let the rookie operate independently on the field.
Diversifying the Offensive Game In their recent victory over the Buccaneers, the Bills displayed a more balanced approach in distributing the ball, moving away from heavy reliance on star receiver Stefon Diggs, who had been a primary target in the first seven weeks of the season. Second-year receiver Khalil Shakir had an impressive game, achieving a career-best 92 yards on six receptions.

Gabe Davis, a veteran player, also had a standout performance against the Buccaneers, recording nine receptions, 87 yards, and a touchdown. Josh Allen noted that the team made a deliberate effort to involve Davis more in shorter passing plays, recognizing the importance of diversifying their offensive strategies and expanding their options.
“It’s hard to always throw it downfield to a certain guy, and I think that’s hard for him as well. So to develop some of this underneath stuff and allow him to put the ball in his hands and make some plays, I think, in turn, will open up some of the other stuff. I thought (offensive coordinator Ken) Dorsey did a great job of giving us stuff that we were familiar with,” Allen explained.
