Jets’ star has a ‘classy’ message to Giants’ New Special Teams Coordinator Michael Ghobrial…

In a notable coaching move, Michael Ghobrial, who served as the assistant special teams coach for the New York Jets for three seasons, is making the transition from Florham Park to East Rutherford as he takes on the role of special teams coordinator for the New York Giants.

The Giants officially confirmed this hiring decision, appointing Ghobrial to fill the vacancy left by the recently dismissed Thomas McGaughey. Ghobrial, who joined the Jets in 2021 under the leadership of coordinator Brant Boyer, played a role in establishing the Jets’ special teams as a respected unit. Prior to his tenure with the Jets, Ghobrial spent 12 seasons as an assistant coach in college football.

Following the announcement, Ghobrial received accolades from his former players on the Jets. Punter Thomas Morstead, a 15-year NFL veteran and Super Bowl champion, expressed his congratulations on Twitter, reposting the Giants’ announcement and noting, “Good things happen to great people! Congrats Ghobi!” Morstead, who signed a one-year deal with the Jets in March, achieved franchise records for the highest gross and net punting averages, leading the NFL in punts of at least 50 yards.

Justin Hardee, a special teams ace who earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2022 under Ghobrial’s guidance, also shared his excitement on social media. Reposting the Giants’ announcement, Hardee added a personal touch, saying, “Congratulations to my guy!! My gunner coach, the past 3 years of straight work we put in day in day out! Well deserved, man! So happy for my guy.

I appreciate you for everything.” Despite a six-game absence due to a hamstring injury in 2023, Hardee made a significant impact as one of the league’s most effective gunners on special teams.
