Texans QB C.J. Stroud Offers Ringing Endorsement For Steelers OC Candidate Jerrod Johnson…

Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson continues to be a sought-after candidate for offensive coordinator positions, with his latest interview opportunity arising from the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his inaugural season with the Texans, Johnson is set to discuss the vacant Steelers’ position, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. This comes on the heels of his interview for the New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator role, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. Notably, this marks Johnson’s fourth and fifth coordinator interviews, having previously engaged with the Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, and Cleveland Browns.

The 35-year-old former quarterback boasts a diverse coaching background, having spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, and San Francisco 49ers. Johnson played a pivotal role in the development of rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, transforming him into a candidate for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Despite his impact on quarterbacks, the potential move to an offensive coordinator role signifies a significant career leap for Johnson. The Eagles and Browns feature established offenses led by Jalen Hurts and Deshaun Watson, respectively, under offensive-minded head coaches. The Saints lack an offensive plan with Dennis Allen at the helm, despite having Derek Carr as their quarterback. The Steelers, with Kenny Pickett, and the Patriots, with Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe, present unique challenges and opportunities for Johnson.

While there is speculation about the Texans promoting Johnson to offensive coordinator if Bobby Slowik secures a head coaching position elsewhere, limited openings remain with the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders. Johnson’s versatility and success in developing talent position him as a promising candidate, leaving NFL teams eager to secure his expertise for their offensive strategies.
