The Cincinnati Bengals have named Dan Pitcher as their new offensive coordinator following Brian Callahan’s departure to the Tennessee Titans, according to reports from the NFL Network. Pitcher, who had been the team’s quarterbacks coach since 2020, coinciding with the drafting of quarterback Joe Burrow as the first overall pick, attributed his decision to stay with the Bengals to Burrow’s influence.
In a recent statement, Pitcher emphasized the invaluable presence of an elite quarterback, citing advice he received from respected individuals in the field who encouraged him to hold onto such talent. He expressed admiration for Burrow not only as an exceptional player but also as a unique and special individual.
Pitcher acknowledged the rarity of finding someone like Burrow and highlighted the difficulty in placing a value on the opportunity to continue working with a quarterback capable of securing a World Championship.
“There are a lot of people in this profession that I respect who have great perspective who have reached out to me, and almost to a person, their advice is, ‘When you have an elite quarterback, you hang on as long as you can,’ and we have that here,” said Pitcher, per Chris Roling of USA Today. “Not only is he an elite player, but I’ve gotten to know him so well as a person. He’s a special person. He’s different. They don’t make many like him, and to get to continue working with him day in and day out, knowing that we have a guy that can win us a World Championship, it’s hard to put a price on that.”
Burrow’s impact on the Bengals extends beyond his on-field prowess, as he has emerged as a generational talent and a remarkable leader, filling voids in both aspects for the organization.
