UPDATE: National Analyst Says Vols Have “Slight Edge” For Zalance Heard…
The Tennessee coaching staff has placed a significant emphasis on bolstering their offensive line to ensure the protection of quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Collaborating closely, offensive line coach Glen Elarbee and head coach Josh Heupel have prioritized recruiting efforts, with former LSU offensive tackle Zalance Heard emerging as a key transfer target. Zalance Heard, previously ranked as the 15th player in the 2023 class by 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, currently stands as the 17th top transfer within the NCAA Transfer Portal, making him an attractive and ready-to-contribute addition for Tennessee.
Having undertaken official visits to both Oklahoma and Tennessee, Heard has been subject to behind-the-scenes discussions, with Tennessee seemingly positioned favorably in the competition. On3’s Pete Nakos, in his recent update on transfer portal insights, highlighted Zalance Heard as a significant player yet to make a decision. Despite a quiet weekend without visits, Heard, a former top-25 prospect in the 2023 cycle, is now deliberating between Oklahoma and Tennessee. Ole Miss, initially expressing interest, has stepped back from the pursuit. The key factor in Tennessee’s favor, according to Nakos, is their top-tier NIL (name, image, likeness) program, giving them a slight edge in securing Heard’s commitment.
