Tunsil Gives Stroud A Fighting Chance vs. Garrett And Browns In Wild Card Round
The Houston Texans have completed a remarkable season turnaround, transforming a 3-13-1 record from the previous year into a 10-7 standing, securing a South Division title, and clinching a playoff spot. Head coach DeMeco Ryans and rookie quarterback sensation C.J. Stroud have been instrumental in this success. Stroud, benefiting from a strong offensive line, particularly owes his protection to tackle Laremy Tunsil, the linchpin of the team.
As the Texans gear up for their first playoff appearance since 2019, the spotlight is on the Cleveland Browns and their formidable defense, spearheaded by fearsome pass rusher Myles Garrett. Tunsil, however, stands out as the player who consistently thwarts Garrett’s pressure. According to Next Gen Stats, Tunsil boasts the best pressure rate allowed against Garrett, an impressive 2.5 percent in a minimum of 40 matchups. In their Week 16 encounter, Garrett failed to create any pressure in six matchups against Tunsil.
This achievement is particularly noteworthy when compared to the other top offensive tackles in the league. In 2023, Garrett recorded impressive stats, including 14 sacks, 42 combined tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 30 quarterback hits, and four forced fumbles. As the Texans face the Wild Card matchup, Tunsil’s prowess is expected to provide Stroud and the team with a more than favorable chance of securing their first postseason victory since 2019.
