The Buffalo Bills made several roster changes ahead of their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and these moves indicated adjustments to their list of inactive players for the night.
They placed tight end Dawson Knox on injured reserve due to wrist surgery but did not promote practice squad tight end Joel Wilson. They also chose not to elevate defensive tackle Eli Ankou. Instead, they elevated cornerback Josh Norman and wide receiver Andy Isabella.
Considering the injuries the team has faced and the defensive challenges they experienced last week against the New England Patriots, it’s understandable that Buffalo may want a different lineup for this game. Given the recent offensive struggles, it also makes sense that they would have some changes.
Here is the complete list of who will be in and who will be out for the Thursday night contest, excluding defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who is ready to play.
- TE Quintin Morris: This was one of the two inactive players already known, as head coach Sean McDermott had ruled out three players earlier in the week (tight end Dawson Knox was among them, but since he’s on injured reserve, he doesn’t count against the active roster). The reserve tight ends behind Dalton Kincaid are likely to be Reggie Gilliam and David Edwards, who usually play fullback and guard, respectively.
- T Alec Anderson: The versatile young lineman is once again a healthy scratch. Ryan Bates serves as the “Jack-of-all-trades,” with Ryan Van Demark as the swing tackle.
- G Germain Ifedi: The veteran insurance policy remains just that, serving as an insurance policy. David Edwards is the other reserve lineman.
- LB Baylon Spector: Spector is sidelined due to an injured hamstring, so he won’t be playing tonight. Veteran A.J. Klein is active for the first time, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him on the defensive lineup if McDermott deems rookie Dorian Williams’ performance to be subpar.
- CB Kaiir Elam: The 2022 first-round pick is a healthy scratch, allowing the Bills to play 35-year old Josh Norman, who hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the final week of last season.
- S Damar Hamlin: The reserve safety is once again a healthy scratch, as the safety room remains in good health.
