Willock and Cook fit to return for QPR
Queens Park Rangers (QPR) manager, Marti Cifuentes, provided updates on the team’s injured players ahead of their upcoming clash with Ipswich. Chris Willock and Steve Cook, who missed the Boxing Day defeat against Millwall, are expected to make a return. Willock had suffered an ankle injury in the previous match against Southampton, while Cook had been absent since coming on as a late substitute in the Sheffield Wednesday game.
Despite Willock and Cook’s return, midfielder Jack Colback will be sidelined for the Ipswich match. However, Cifuentes expressed optimism about Colback’s recovery, stating that the midfielder should be available for the New Year’s Day encounter against Cardiff at Loftus Road or the FA Cup tie with Bournemouth the following Saturday.
Cifuentes praised the club’s medical staff for their efforts, highlighting that having only one injured player at this stage of the season is positive news. He emphasized the importance of finding the right balance of freshness and opportunity to field the best starting eleven.
Regarding Colback’s injury, Cifuentes mentioned it as a muscular issue, acknowledging that such injuries might take longer to heal than initially hoped. However, he assured that Colback is actively participating in daily training sessions and is progressing well. Although Colback won’t be ready for the Ipswich match, Cifuentes is optimistic about his availability for the upcoming fixtures against Cardiff or Bournemouth based on the midfielder’s positive recovery trajectory.
