Caretaker-manager Kevin McDonald, despite the end of his unbeaten run with Bradford City, emphasized the need to focus on the “positives” following their heavy 4-1 defeat to Milton Keynes Dons on Tuesday. This loss came after a string of three wins and a draw during McDonald’s tenure.
The quest for a permanent replacement for the departed Mark Hughes continues, and McDonald quickly redirected his attention to the upcoming match against Sutton United. He acknowledged that their performance fell below the expected standard, both by their own standards and the fans’ expectations. He expressed the fans’ deserving better results.
McDonald stressed the importance of regrouping and preparing for the Sutton match, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a better performance. He highlighted the urgency to address the issues that went wrong during the game and make improvements. The fast-paced schedule of games allows them to have an opportunity for a swift recovery.
Although the defeat was disappointing, McDonald pointed out that there were still positive aspects to take away from the match.
In the game, Joe Tomlinson gave MK Dons an early lead, which was temporarily nullified by Bradford’s Alex Gilliead within the first 20 minutes. The hosts then regained the lead with a Jack Payne free-kick and secured the victory with two second-half goals from Max Dean and Alex Gilbey, marking MK Dons’ first league victory in ten games.
