“with some adjustments”: Marti Cifuentes reveals his plans for midfielder Duo as he makes huge claims amid QPR’s survival in the current season…

New QPR head coach Marti Cifuentes has expressed his optimism regarding the potential of midfielders Ilias Chair and Chris Willock, considering them key players for the club. Cifuentes commended their one-on-one skills and ability to influence the game’s pace in the final third, expressing confidence that ‘with some adjustment’, they can contribute more goals.

His comments signal a shift towards a more attractive and attacking style of play, promising to benefit Chair and Willock, whose form is deemed crucial for QPR’s survival in the current season.

Ilias Chair, despite a reported interest from Leicester City and Leeds United, opted to stay with QPR after an impressive previous season, where he scored five goals and provided nine assists. However, he has struggled to replicate that form this season, registering only two assists in 14 games. On the other hand, Chris Willock, the second-highest scorer for QPR last season, has faced limited minutes under former manager Gareth Ainsworth, making most of his appearances as a substitute.

Cifuentes, who took over as head coach following Ainsworth’s departure, emphasized his admiration for Chair and Willock, identifying them as players with the potential to significantly impact games. He highlighted their one-on-one prowess and ability to alter the game’s rhythm in crucial attacking areas.

While acknowledging their existing skills, Cifuentes emphasized the importance of consistent performance week after week, expressing his belief that both players can score more goals through certain adjustments.

QPR fans can be encouraged by Cifuentes’ approach, as he aims to implement a more possession-based and attacking style of play, in contrast to Ainsworth’s direct approach. With the team currently 23rd in the championship table, Cifuentes’ focus on technical, talented players suggests a potential revitalization for Chair and Willock.

The coach’s emphasis on the duo’s role in the team’s survival adds significance to their upcoming game against Rotherham, where Cifuentes will take charge for the first time, seeking a crucial victory to propel QPR up the table.
