Michigan is currently in a favorable position to secure the commitment of four-star edge defender Lugard Edokpayi from Maryland. Despite entering the recruitment race late, the Wolverines have made a strong impression. Edokpayi, ranked as the No. 9 player in Maryland, has undertaken a busy schedule of visits in the past month, including stops at Michigan, Tennessee, Minnesota, Rutgers, Maryland, and Florida State.
The Wolverines extended an offer to Edokpayi just last month, and the signs are positive for them to secure his commitment. Predictions from experts like Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider, as well as EJ Holland and Zach Libby of The Wolverine, lean in favor of Michigan. The coaching staff, including Jeese Minter, Mike Elston, and Dylan Roney, conducted an in-home visit with Edokpayi, who spoke positively about the experience. Edokpayi praised the discussions on academics, highlighting Michigan’s status as a top public school and emphasizing the program’s football culture, defensive strategies, and overall status as a blue-blood program.
Lugard Edokpayi’s potential commitment would significantly bolster Michigan’s class, and all eyes will be on the early signing day to see if the Wolverines can secure his pledge.
Meanwhile, despite recent staff changes, particularly the departure of Chris Partridge, Michigan’s linebacker commits for the 2024 cycle appear to be firmly locked in. Four-star in-state linebacker Jeremiah Beasley is already practicing with the team ahead of the Rose Bowl matchup against Alabama. Despite the uncertainties surrounding coaching changes, Beasley expressed confidence in the coaching staff’s transparency and efforts to keep recruits informed.
Beasley, the No. 7 player in the state, had an impressive senior season, excelling on both defense and offense. He amassed over 110 tackles on defense and nearly 1,000 yards with 14 touchdowns on offense. Beasley is excited about the opportunity to play alongside friends Semaj Morgan and Will Johnson, witnessing the impact they’ve made as young playmakers at Michigan.
