Hull City’s experienced defender, Cyrus Christie, is expressing his desire to extend his stay at the MKM Stadium beyond the current season. Although his existing contract with the Tigers concludes at the end of the season, formal discussions regarding a new deal have not yet commenced between Christie and manager Liam Rosenior. However, the club retains the option to prolong the contract by an additional 12 months, providing some security.
Rosenior had previously indicated his comfort with delaying crucial decisions about player contracts early in the season. This uncertainty also surrounds other players like Greg Docherty, Adama Traore, and Aaron Connolly, all approaching the end of their respective contracts.
Christie, who joined Hull City from Fulham in the summer of 2022, has spoken out for the first time about his desire to continue his tenure with the club. The 31-year-old emphasized his attachment to Hull, expressing his hope that contract negotiations will result in a positive outcome.
Entering the final year of his current contract, Christie acknowledged the limited influence he has in the decision-making process. Despite this, he emphasized his commitment to contributing on the pitch and highlighted the positive atmosphere he has experienced at the club, likening it to his time at Swansea.
When questioned about the possibility of signing a new contract with the Championship club, Christie remained diplomatic, stating that the decision ultimately rests with the higher-ups in the organization. He reiterated his dedication to performing on the field and aligning with the club’s vision.
“Yes, we’ll see,” Christie then said when asked if he’d like to sign new terms with theTigers. “It’s not my decision, that’s down to the people above me .
Christie acknowledged his changing role on the team, adapting to play in different positions, particularly after recovering from a significant knee operation. Despite facing challenges, such as competition for the right-back position with Lewie Coyle, Christie showcased his impact by coming off the bench and contributing to goals against Swansea.
Addressing doubts surrounding his performance since returning from injury, Christie expressed a determination to prove himself and continue working hard in training. Recognizing his experience and the versatility he brings to the team, he stated his belief in having much left to achieve in the game and expressed enthusiasm about continuing his journey with Hull City.
