As frustration mounts in the Mile High City, Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton delivered a brutally honest assessment that has fans and analysts buzzing — and not in a good way.
Following another lackluster performance and growing uncertainty at key positions, Payton admitted during his postgame press conference that he’s struggling to find answers for the team’s most glaring issue: offensive consistency and quarterback play.
“We’re trying everything, but right now, I don’t have a good answer,” Payton said candidly. “We’ve got to be better — I’ve got to be better. But it’s clear we’re not where we need to be, and that’s on all of us.”
The moment of vulnerability comes at a crucial time, as the Broncos have stumbled through another disappointing stretch to open the season, despite offseason hype and roster investments aimed at making a postseason push. The team’s offense, particularly at quarterback, has failed to find rhythm, with turnovers, stalled drives, and miscommunication plaguing nearly every game.
“We can’t keep shooting ourselves in the foot. Every week it’s something new — missed reads, protection issues, execution problems,” Payton added. “And honestly, I’m still trying to figure out the solution.”
The admission has sent a wave of concern through the Broncos fanbase, many of whom had placed high expectations on Payton following his hiring last year. His résumé as a Super Bowl-winning coach brought hope, but so far, results have fallen short.
Insiders say the front office is exploring options, including potential changes under center and even adjustments in offensive play-calling responsibilities, but nothing is imminent. The team’s next few games could be pivotal for the coaching staff — and for Payton himself.
If Sean Payton doesn’t find an answer soon, the Broncos’ season — and perhaps their long-term vision — could be in serious jeopardy.
For now, though, one thing is clear: Denver has a massive problem on offense, and even their head coach doesn’t have a solution yet.
