In a move that’s sending shockwaves through the college basketball world, Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl has officially confirmed the commitment of another elite recruit to his already stacked 2025 class — securing one of the nation’s most highly sought-after stars and reinforcing Auburn’s place as a rising powerhouse in the SEC.
Pearl made the announcement during a press availability Friday morning, calling the commitment “a game-changer” for the program.
“We just landed a young man who’s going to make a major impact the second he steps on the court,” Pearl said. “He’s got the talent, the drive, and the character we’re looking for at Auburn. This is a big one for us.”
While the program has not officially released the name yet due to NCAA announcement timing guidelines, multiple sources confirm that the player in question is 5-star small forward Malik Thomas, a 6-foot-8 phenom out of Los Angeles, California. Thomas had narrowed his final list to Auburn, Kansas, and UCLA, but ultimately chose the Tigers after an official visit that left a major impression.
Ranked No. 6 overall in the 2025 ESPN Top 100, Thomas is known for his explosive athleticism, smooth three-point shot, and elite two-way ability. His commitment gives Auburn its third 5-star pledge of the cycle, joining elite point guard Trey Dorsey and versatile big man Jalen Reese.
Recruiting analysts are already calling it one of the best classes in the nation — and perhaps Pearl’s most complete since arriving on The Plains.
“Bruce Pearl is doing something special,” said 247Sports analyst Jerry Meyer. “He’s not just grabbing top-tier talent — he’s building a roster that fits perfectly together. Auburn is going to be scary next season.”
Thomas is expected to officially announce his commitment on social media later this weekend, but Pearl’s confident remarks all but confirmed what Auburn fans have been hoping for.
With Thomas in the fold, Auburn now boasts a 2025 class that rivals any in the country — and Pearl isn’t done yet. Rumors continue to swirl around several other top targets who have Auburn high on their lists.
As Bruce Pearl continues to stockpile elite talent, the Tigers appear primed to not only contend for the SEC title — but to make a serious national championship push in the years to come.
