Philadelphia Phillies CEO John Middleton has finally addressed the ongoing contract discussions with star third baseman Alec Bohm, providing much-needed clarity for fans. In a recent press conference, Middleton described Bohm as an essential cornerstone of the team’s future and emphasized the organization’s commitment to keeping him in Philadelphia long-term.
“Alec is one of those rare players who not only excels on the field but embodies everything we want in a Philadelphia Phillie,” Middleton stated. “He’s a leader, a competitor, and someone we absolutely see as part of our long-term core.”
Bohm, who has steadily developed into one of the league’s top third basemen, has become a fan favorite due to his clutch hitting, defensive improvement, and calm demeanor under pressure.
While Middleton didn’t reveal specific details, he acknowledged that negotiations with Bohm’s camp are ongoing and hinted at the organization’s willingness to make a significant financial commitment.
“We’re working through the process, but I’ll say this: we want Alec here for a long time,” Middleton said. “He’s proven his value time and time again, and we’re confident we’ll find a deal that works for both sides.”
The 27-year-old infielder is entering the arbitration phase of his career, and a long-term extension would provide security for both Bohm and the team. With the Phillies’ recent focus on locking up their young talent, Bohm could follow in the footsteps of other stars like Bryce Harper and Trea Turner, who have committed to lengthy deals with the organization.
In 2024, Bohm delivered one of his best seasons, posting career highs in home runs and RBIs while providing steady defense at the hot corner. His ability to hit in clutch moments has been a key factor in the Phillies’ postseason runs, making him an indispensable part of their lineup.
Beyond his on-field contributions, Bohm has also become a leader in the clubhouse, earning the respect of teammates and coaches alike. His calm and composed approach is seen as a stabilizing force for the team.
