The New York Mets are shaping up to be one of the most formidable teams in MLB for the 2025 season.
This offseason, the Mets made headlines with their historic signing of superstar Juan Soto. The 26-year-old right fielder inked a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract that could escalate to $805 million, making it the largest deal in MLB history. Soto, coming off an MVP-caliber 2024 season where he posted 8.1 WAR, joins the Mets after a stellar year with the New York Yankees. Stealing Soto from their cross-town rivals has not only energized Mets fans but also sent a strong message to the league: the Mets are all-in for a championship.
Shortstop Francisco Lindor is especially thrilled about the acquisition, praising Soto’s electrifying presence and his impact on and off the field.
“He’s an electric player. That’s going to add to the vibes as well,” Lindor said via SNY Mets on X (formerly Twitter). “Also his professionalism. I think that’s going to go well with the organization, with the culture that we’ve been trying to grow and trying to establish.”
Lindor also credited the Mets’ front office for executing what he called a “grand heist.” He believes Soto’s addition will further bolster a team that has already worked hard to create an environment that fosters success and camaraderie.
“The whole front office [is] trying to build the culture and atmosphere where the fans come and have fun, the players have fun, [and] the families enjoy the game. But we’re gonna go out there and give everything we’ve got,” Lindor added. “I think a guy like Juan Soto is gonna help a lot [in that regard].”
The pairing of Soto and Lindor in the Mets’ lineup promises to be a nightmare for opposing pitchers. Soto’s ability to get on base, combined with Lindor’s power and speed, creates a dynamic one-two punch reminiscent of Soto’s partnership with Aaron Judge during his time with the Yankees.
The Mets, who ranked seventh in MLB last season with 4.75 runs per game, now boast an even more potent offense. Soto represents a massive upgrade over Starling Marte in right field, giving the Mets an elite presence both at the plate and in the outfield.
As the 2025 season approaches, the Mets’ aspirations of a World Series title feel more realistic than ever, thanks in large part to the arrival of Juan Soto.
