Good News: Just In Philadelphia Phillies Officially Announce the Addition Pitching Depth With Two Minor Arms…

The Philadelphia Phillies have bolstered their pitching depth by officially announcing the addition of two impactful arms, to their roster. These acquisitions signal the Phillies’ commitment to building a well-rounded team capable of competing at the highest level in the upcoming season.

Frankie Montas, a hard-throwing right-handed starter, brings significant upside to the Phillies’ rotation. Known for his blazing fastball and devastating splitter, Montas has proven to be a reliable innings-eater when healthy. In his most recent full season, he posted a 3.37 ERA over 187 innings with 207 strikeouts, showcasing his ability to dominate opposing lineups. Though Montas faced some injury concerns last season, the Phillies are confident in his ability to return to form and provide a stabilizing presence in the middle of their rotation.

Clay Holmes, a right-handed reliever, is another valuable addition. Holmes emerged as one of the league’s most effective bullpen arms in recent years, boasting a 2.54 ERA over 63 appearances last season. His sinker-slider combination has been particularly effective, generating a high groundball rate and limiting hard contact. With Holmes in the bullpen, the Phillies have added a reliable late-inning option to complement their existing core of relievers.

“Adding proven pitchers like Frankie Montas and Clay Holmes gives us the depth and versatility we need to compete,” said Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski. “Both bring unique skill sets to our staff, and we’re excited to see what they can do in Philadelphia.”

The additions of Montas and Holmes also provide flexibility for the Phillies’ pitching staff. Montas slots into a rotation that already features ace Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola, while Holmes strengthens a bullpen looking to build on its recent success. Together, they enhance the team’s chances of navigating the grind of a 162-game season and making another deep postseason run.

These moves come as the Phillies aim to capitalize on their recent playoff momentum and solidify themselves as perennial contenders. With Spring Training around the corner, fans have reason to be optimistic about what this revamped pitching staff can achieve in 2024.
