New York Jets Release Running Back Michael Carter; Browns’ Elijah Moore Hopes to Recruit Him
The New York Jets have released running back Michael Carter, and his former teammate, Cleveland Browns receiver Elijah Moore, is hoping to recruit him to the Browns. Moore responded to an ESPN tweet announcing the release with emojis suggesting he would like to see Carter land in Cleveland.
Carter was a promising fourth-round pick by the Jets in 2021. He had some productive seasons in New York, particularly as a rookie, when he gained 964 yards from scrimmage. However, his role in the Jets offense diminished this season, with just eight rushes for 38 yards and 15 catches for 68 yards before his release.
Moore, who faced a similar situation with the Jets last year and was traded to the Browns this offseason, has thrived in Cleveland, becoming the team’s No. 2 receiver behind Amari Cooper.
The Browns, who lost Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb for the season in Week 2, could use Carter’s skill set. They have been using a running back by committee approach, with Jerome Ford, Kareem Hunt, and Pierre Strong Jr. all contributing. However, Carter’s ability as a reliable third-down back and a dangerous pass-catcher would provide proven depth and enhance the Browns’ playoff aspirations.
The Browns are preparing for a big matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers this week. With their come-from-behind victory against the Baltimore Ravens, they are now firmly in contention in the AFC North at 6-3. The game against the Steelers could potentially decide the top spot in the division.
