The Philadelphia Phillies are making waves early this offseason, with reports linking them to a potential pursuit of free-agent star. As the team explores reshaping its roster, FanSided’s Christopher Kline suggests that Bregman could be the perfect addition if the Phillies decide to part ways with All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm.
Bregman, the longtime Houston Astros cornerstone, is projected to command a four-year, $119 million contract. At 30 years old, he remains one of baseball’s most consistent and clutch performers. Known for his discipline at the plate, defensive versatility, and ability to shine in pressure situations, Bregman would bring a championship pedigree to Philadelphia.
“Bregman is an established winner who still checks about every box,” Kline wrote. “There’s no doubt that Bregman’s consistency would dramatically change the feel of this Phillies lineup, which can feel a little too boom-or-bust at times.”
The addition of Bregman would allow the Phillies to leverage Bohm’s value in a trade, potentially landing a key player like Garrett Crochet, Luis Robert Jr., or Ryan Helsley to further bolster their roster. Such a move could solidify the Phillies as legitimate contenders in 2025.
However, prying Bregman away from Houston won’t be easy. The Astros are reportedly prepared to offer as much as $200 million over six years to retain their franchise legend. Philadelphia would need to make a competitive offer to entice Bregman to switch uniforms, but the fit is undeniable.
For the Phillies, signing Bregman would address their need for a reliable presence in the heart of their lineup while upgrading defensively at third base. His experience as a proven winner could also provide the leadership and consistency needed to push Philadelphia over the top.
If the Phillies are serious about a bold offseason overhaul, bringing in Bregman might be the perfect move to complement their already potent roster. Whether they can outbid the Astros remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Philadelphia is gearing up for a high-stakes offseason.
