The Los Angeles Rams endured a tough 37-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football, dropping their record below .500 and raising questions about their postseason aspirations. Compounding their struggles, injuries continue to weigh heavily on the team’s performance.
The Rams were hopeful for the return of starting right tackle Rob Havenstein, but the 32-year-old missed his third consecutive game due to an ankle injury. His absence was glaring as the Rams’ offensive line faltered against the Eagles’ aggressive pass rush, allowing quarterback Matthew Stafford to be sacked five times.
Head coach Sean McVay provided a mix of promising and concerning updates on Monday. Havenstein appears to be on track to return in Week 13, while tight end Tyler Higbee is set to resume practice this week. Higbee has been sidelined since suffering a major knee injury last season and would provide a much-needed boost to the passing game alongside Cooper Kupp and emerging star Puka Nacua.
However, not all news was encouraging. Running back Kyren Williams, a standout contributor to the offense, will remain out at least another week as he recovers from an ankle injury. Additionally, defensive lineman Aaron Donald sustained minor wear and tear during Sunday’s game, though McVay reassured fans it is not expected to affect his availability moving forward.
“We know these injuries are challenging, but we’ll keep fighting,” McVay said. “Our focus is on controlling what we can and getting our guys back as soon as possible.”
With Havenstein’s likely return, the offensive line could be at full strength for the first time this season. The recent reinstatement of Steve Avila from injured reserve adds depth to a unit featuring Alaric Jackson and Kevin Dotson. For Higbee, a return to game action would solidify a tight end position that has struggled in his absence.
Despite their thin margin for error, McVay remains confident the Rams can bounce back. “You get off the mat, correct what’s within your control, and come back swinging,” he said.
The Rams face a critical road test against the New Orleans Saints in their effort to stay alive in the NFC West playoff race.
