After a disappointing early exit from the 2024 postseason, the Philadelphia Phillies are making moves to ensure they contend for a World Series title in 2025. Despite winning the NL East and reaching the NLDS, the Phillies fell short of their championship aspirations after back-to-back near-misses in 2022 and 2023.
The quick postseason exit appears to have sparked the organization into action, with the team reportedly focusing on two high-profile free agents this offseason. According to MLB Network insider Jon Morosi, the Phillies are eyeing shortstop Willy Adames of the Milwaukee Brewers and third baseman Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros.
Morosi also speculated that the Phillies’ pursuit of Adames or Bregman could signal that third baseman Alec Bohm is on the trading block. While Bohm was an All-Star in 2024, his struggles in the second half of the season seem to have prompted the Phillies to consider moving him in a trade before the 2025 season begins.
Both Adames and Bregman had impressive 2024 campaigns. Adames appeared in 161 games for the Brewers, hitting .251 with 32 home runs, 112 RBIs, and a .794 OPS. Bregman, in 145 games for the Astros, posted a .260 average with 26 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a .768 OPS.
Adames has also expressed his willingness to switch positions for the right contract, potentially making him a fit for Philadelphia’s infield. Bregman, known for his strong play at third base, could fill a similar role if the Phillies look to upgrade at that position.

With their eyes firmly set on a World Series title, the Phillies are expected to be one of the favorites in 2025 as they reshape their roster for another championship run. As the offseason unfolds, expect further movement, especially if they make a move for one of these coveted free agents.
