GOOD NEWS: Just In Mets at the Verge of SIGNING $162M Four-time All-Star to Occupy New Position…

The New York Mets are reportedly closing in on a significant move this offseason, with President of Baseball Operations David Stearns focused on improving the team’s roster. While much of the offseason buzz has centered around potential acquisitions of starting pitcher Corbin Burnes and outfielder Juan Soto, there’s also growing interest in the possibility of Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman joining the Mets.

Bregman, a two-time All-Star and a key player in the Astros’ recent success, is coming off a 2024 season where he posted a .768 OPS, marking his lowest since his rookie year. However, that number doesn’t fully capture his overall performance—Bregman fought through a slow start and finished strong, with 26 home runs, 75 RBIs, and 79 runs scored over 634 plate appearances. While he’s a Scott Boras client and may be looking to cash in on a lucrative contract this winter, Bregman has not ruled out the possibility of leaving Houston, with a reunion there still a likely option.

What makes this situation particularly intriguing for the Mets is Bregman’s willingness to switch positions. While he’s primarily a third baseman, the 29-year-old is open to playing second base if the right team offers the opportunity. This could fit well with the Mets, who already have Mark Vientos manning third base. The Mets could look to add Bregman to their lineup and shift him to second base, addressing a potential need in the infield.

The Mets have been mentioned as a strong contender to land Bregman, with some MLB experts predicting a deal in the neighborhood of a six-year, $162 million contract. This deal could provide the Mets with a proven veteran and an offensive powerhouse to help bolster their roster as they aim for a playoff run.
