The Philadelphia Phillies have promoted Mark Lowy to assistant pitching coach, aiming to strengthen their coaching ranks after former assistant pitching coach Brian Kaplan’s departure. Lowy, who has been integral to the Phillies’ player development, first joined the organization in 2021 and was hired full-time in 2022 as a pitching development analyst.
After an impressive tenure, he became the lead pitching development analyst with the major league club in 2024.
Lowy’s deep understanding of modern pitching techniques makes him a valuable addition to the coaching staff, led by pitching coach Caleb Cotham, who will be returning for his fifth season. Alongside bullpen coach Cesar Ramos, entering his second year, the Phillies now have a solid foundation for the 2025 season. Lowy, a Gettysburg College alum, also shares a professional history with Kaplan, as both worked together at Cressey Sports Performance in Florida prior to joining the Phillies.
Kaplan’s exit, prompted by an opportunity to become the Arizona Diamondbacks’ pitching coach, created a notable gap in the Phillies’ coaching structure. This void was quickly filled with Lowy, whose familiarity with the Phillies’ system and innovative approach to pitching will be essential for the team’s future success.
