The Toronto Blue Jays have added another experienced pitching mind to their organization as they bring in former SF Giants pitching coordinator Justin Lehr to oversee minor league pitching.
Lehr, who has a strong background in pitching development, previously worked with the Giants in a variety of roles, including as a rehab pitching coordinator and later as a pitching coordinator focused on player development.
A former MLB pitcher himself, Lehr was originally drafted by the Oakland A’s in 1999 and played parts of four seasons in the majors with the A’s, Milwaukee Brewers, and Cincinnati Reds. After retiring as a player in 2012, he moved into coaching and scouting, gaining experience with both the Kansas City Royals and Houston Astros before his tenure with the Giants.
His move to the Blue Jays marks yet another significant coaching shift for the Giants, who have seen several pitching staff departures to other teams in recent years, including Brian Bannister to the Red Sox and Andrew Bailey to the White Sox. Lehr’s expertise will provide Toronto with an added voice in shaping their pitching talent at the minor league level, as the organization continues to bolster its developmental ranks under manager John Schneider.
