Just In: Manager Rob Thomson Confirm Phillies In Talks with 5 Free Agent Target for 2025…

The Philadelphia Phillies are gearing up for the 2025 season, and their outfield is one area that needs improvement after an inconsistent 2024 campaign. With only Nick Castellanos and Brandon Marsh as clear returning players, the Phillies are considering their options, including internal competition and potential free-agent signings.

Manager Rob Thomson has confirmed that the team is in discussions with five free-agent targets, including potential center fielders who could strengthen the lineup. The Phillies are seeking to address the defensive and offensive struggles they faced last season, with several intriguing names on their radar.

Here are five available free-agent center fielders the Phillies could target for 2025:

Cody Bellinger

A former MVP and one of the top names on the market, Bellinger could opt out of his contract with the Cubs. After rediscovering his form in 2023, Bellinger remains a top-tier talent both offensively and defensively. He could provide a major upgrade in center field while also offering versatility across the outfield and at first base. His projected market value is around $24.2 million annually, making him a premium target for the Phillies if they want to make a splash.

Harrison Bader

A strong defensive center fielder, Bader offers speed and base-stealing ability. Though his offensive numbers have been inconsistent, he remains a solid option with experience at all three outfield positions. Bader is projected to sign a one-year deal worth $7.1 million, making him a more affordable option compared to Bellinger.

Kevin Pillar

Pillar, a 12-year veteran known for his highlight-reel defensive plays, is nearing the end of his career but still provides value with his glove and versatility. He may not offer much offensively, but he could be a cheap defensive addition, expected to sign a one-year, $1.2 million contract.

Enrique Hernández

“Kiké” Hernández is a super utility player who can slot in across multiple positions, including center field. While his bat hasn’t been particularly strong, his postseason experience and versatility make him an intriguing option. The Phillies could add him for around $2.8 million for a one-year deal.

 Garrett Hampson

Another utility player with speed and defensive skills, Hampson struggled offensively in 2024 but could be a depth piece for the Phillies. His expected contract would be modest, likely around $2 million for a one-year deal.
