In a move to bolster their secondary ahead of Week 7, the Denver Broncos have officially added cornerback to their practice squad, head coach Sean Payton confirmed on Monday. Newsome, a standout from Nebraska, returns to the team after briefly being released prior to Week 6.
He joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft and had spent the first five weeks of the season on Denver’s practice squad. Known for his agility and awareness on the field, Newsome was an honorable mention All-Big Ten player in both 2022 and 2023, where he started 10 games as a senior, tallying 37 tackles, three passes defensed, an interception, and a fumble recovery.
This addition comes after the Broncos released wide receiver Kaden Davis from the practice squad to make room for Newsome, emphasizing their focus on shoring up the defensive backfield as they prepare for upcoming games.
Newsome’s return provides the Broncos with valuable depth in the secondary, and his familiarity with the team’s system is expected to be a key asset. Coach Payton expressed optimism about Newsome’s potential impact: “We’re excited to have Quinton back. He’s a young, talented player with great instincts, and we believe he can help us in key situations moving forward.”
