The New England Patriots have reportedly locked in another one of their homegrown stars. The team has reached a mutual agreement with special teams standout Brenden Schooler, signing him to a three-year, $9 million extension, according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero. With incentives, the deal could reach up to $10.5 million, as reported by ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
“Brenden is excited to continue building on New England’s strong special teams tradition,” said Schooler’s agent, Alex Campbell of AJAX Sports.
Schooler, who joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2022, has quickly made a name for himself on special teams. He has appeared in 38 games, racking up 32 tackles and recovering four fumbles across 846 special teams snaps. His versatility has also caught the team’s attention, with the Patriots experimenting with him at safety during the preseason.
This move is part of a broader strategy by the Patriots to retain key players. Schooler joins a list of teammates recently rewarded with new contracts, including running back Rhamondre Stevenson, offensive lineman Mike Onwenu, safeties Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers, tight end Hunter Henry, and defensive lineman Christian Barmore.
The Patriots’ commitment to securing their core talent signals a strong push to maintain stability and build for future success.
