Florida State’s struggles continued on Saturday as the Seminoles (1-4, 1-3 ACC) suffered a crushing 42-16 defeat at the hands of the SMU Mustangs. Coming off a promising win against Cal, the team’s failure to build any momentum has left fans and head coach Mike Norvell frustrated and searching for answers.
The Seminoles were thoroughly outplayed, being outgained 467-297 in total yards while committing three costly turnovers. Adding to the woes, the team was penalized 10 times for 79 yards, a performance that Norvell didn’t shy away from labeling as “embarrassing.”
“When things didn’t go well for us, we didn’t respond like we needed to,” Norvell admitted after the game. “It’s extremely disappointing. It’s embarrassing. Ultimately, we have to make a choice as a football program of what we’re going to look like when we get out there.”
Norvell’s blunt assessment reflects the growing frustration within the fanbase, as the program has struggled to find consistency under his leadership.
