The Pittsburgh Steelers have always prided themselves on a dominant defense and a powerful running game. While their defense has lived up to expectations during the team’s 3-0 start this season, the ground attack has struggled. Now, a battered offensive line is facing even more challenges heading into Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts (1-2).
Veteran guard Isaac Seumalo, who has been out for a month with a pectoral injury, has been ruled out for Sunday’s game, according to the team’s senior director of communications, Burt Lauten. Earlier this week, the Steelers were dealt another blow when rookie right tackle Troy Fautanu was declared out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury sustained in practice.
With key players like Seumalo and Fautanu sidelined, the Steelers’ offensive line will be forced to dig deep. Right guard James Daniels and the rest of the O-Line will need to rise to the occasion against a tough Colts defensive front. Despite these setbacks, Pittsburgh has managed to stay afloat, but the hope is that Seumalo’s eventual return will help open up more opportunities for running backs Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren, and Cordarrelle Patterson.
Seumalo’s Potential Impact When He Returns
Seumalo, a 30-year-old veteran from Oregon State, signed with the Steelers last year after spending seven seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Known for his abilities in both run and pass blocking, he could provide a significant boost to the offense. While the unit may not become explosive, a healthy Seumalo could help keep the offense stable and effective.
Quarterback Justin Fields has shown increased comfort since joining the Steelers, and with a reinforced offensive line, he could be trusted with more responsibility. Until then, Pittsburgh’s defense, anchored by star linebacker TJ Watt, will need to continue setting the pace and controlling the game.
The Steelers are set to face the Colts with a 1 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday.
