The Vegas Golden Knights, the 2023 Stanley Cup Champions, have made headlines with a major trade that brings a $34 million superstar forward to the team, positioning him as the ideal replacement for Jonathan Marchessault.
In addition to this significant acquisition, General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced the signing of defenseman Viliam Kmec to a three-year, entry-level contract. Kmec impressed during the 2024 Development Camp held in July.
During the 2023-24 season, Kmec played for the Prince George Cougars in the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he tallied nine goals and 25 assists for a total of 34 points in 58 regular-season games, ranking second among defensemen on his team.
At just 20 years old, Kmec has completed his third season in the WHL after moving from Slovakia in 2021-22. Over three seasons with Prince George, he has accumulated 18 goals and 62 assists for 80 points across 180 games, along with an additional 10 points in 27 playoff appearances.
Kmec also played a pivotal role in leading the Golden Knights rookies to a perfect 3-0-0 record at the 2024 Rookie Faceoff in Los Angeles, contributing one goal and two assists in those games.

Representing Slovakia, Kmec participated in the 2024 World Junior Championship, where he recorded four assists in five games. This marked his third consecutive appearance at the World Juniors, and he previously helped Slovakia secure a silver medal at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
