The Denver Broncos have parted ways with 26-year-old veteran pass rusher Marcus Haynes, following the player’s request to leave the team. Citing personal reasons and a desire for a fresh start, Haynes asked the Broncos for his release, which the organization has granted.
Haynes, an undrafted free agent from Old Dominion in the 2023 NFL Draft, had stints with the Broncos, Houston Texans, and Cleveland Browns before initially signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers late in training camp. Despite showing promise, Haynes sought a change of scenery, leading to his departure from Denver.
Shortly after his release, Haynes re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers following an injury to linebacker Alex Highsmith, who is expected to miss two to three weeks due to a groin injury. Haynes will provide depth on the practice squad, with potential for special teams and rotational duties. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin may also elevate other players, such as Ade Ogundeji, to fill the gap in the linebacker rotation.
DeMarvin Leal and Nick Herbig are set to see increased snaps alongside T.J. Watt while Highsmith recovers. The Steelers are expected to fill one remaining spot on their practice squad to address other areas of need.
For Haynes, this represents a fresh opportunity to contribute to a team with playoff aspirations while the Broncos look to move forward after granting his release.
