Sad News: Kris Knoblauch Shares Devastating Updates on Evander Kane’s Surgery…

Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane underwent surgery on Friday to address multiple injuries, but his return to the ice will be delayed significantly. The surgery, which was deemed successful, repaired two torn hip adductor muscles, two hernias, and two torn lower abdominal muscles. These issues stemmed from Kane playing through a sports hernia last season. While the operation went well, Kane himself admitted that he has a “long road to recovery” ahead.

The biggest challenge for the Oilers now is Kane’s extended absence. He is expected to miss most, but not all, of the regular season, creating potential complications for the team. The Oilers could place him on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) to free up salary cap space, but the situation becomes tricky if Kane is projected to return during the season. If his return is anticipated before the playoffs, the team will need to account for his $5.25 million cap hit, limiting their flexibility in making roster moves.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, on his 32 Thoughts podcast, reported that the Oilers don’t expect Kane to be sidelined for the entire season. While setbacks are always possible, the team believes Kane will return before the playoffs. If he were out for the entire regular season but cleared for the postseason, the Oilers could theoretically add extra players using Kane’s cap space without penalty, giving them a boost for a potential playoff run.

Kane’s postseason success has been a critical factor in Edmonton’s recent deep runs, and his health will be crucial if they hope to contend again. While the surgery was a positive step, patience will be needed as Kane works his way back to full strength.

Kane’s Ongoing Health Struggles

Injuries have plagued Kane throughout his career, including previous issues like cracked ribs, ankle problems, and a wrist injury caused by a skate blade that sidelined him for an extended period. This latest setback may be his most significant yet. Despite these challenges, Kane has been an integral part of the Oilers’ success, especially in the playoffs, where he has recorded 20 goals and 10 assists in 47 games for Edmonton.

The Oilers are hopeful that at the very least, Kane will be healthy in time for another Stanley Cup push. His return will be vital for their postseason ambitions.
