Sad News: Craig Berube Provides Some ill-timed Injuries hampering Maple Leafs Early at Camp

The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing some unfortunate injury setbacks early in their training camp, potentially simplifying the roster decisions ahead of next week’s cuts.

Young center Fraser Minten was spotted in a walking boot after suffering a high left ankle sprain last week, raising concerns about his availability. In addition, forward Steven Lorentz, who joined the Leafs on a PTO (professional tryout) contract, missed Friday’s practice due to an upper-body injury. Head coach Craig Berube described Lorentz as day-to-day, but any prolonged absence could hinder his chances of making the final roster. Lorentz had been skating on the fourth line alongside David Kampf and Ryan Reaves.

On the defensive side, Ben Danford, this year’s first-round draft pick from the Oshawa Generals, remains sidelined with a concussion. While he is on the ice, he’s practicing separately as he works through recovery.

Meanwhile, defenseman Jani Hakanpaa, who was already placed in the third group of development and injured players, continues to struggle with a lingering knee issue, limiting his involvement in camp activities.

These injuries are proving to be untimely for the Leafs, but they may also bring some clarity as the team narrows down its roster heading into the regular season.
