Good News: Matt LaFleur Received Major Boost as Packer Announce the Addition of  an Ideal Replacement for Quay Walker FOR THE 2024-2025 Season…

The Green Bay Packers may be in need of additional linebacker help, but they’ve just made a key move that could solve that issue ahead of the 2024-2025 season.

While Jeff Hafley’s defense shined in Week 2, holding the Indianapolis Colts to just 10 points and forcing three turnovers, linebacker Quay Walker continued to struggle. According to PFF, Walker missed two tackles and allowed four completions on five targets for 53 yards. Though he did create one pressure that led to an interception, his overall coverage has become a concern for the Packers.

Given Walker’s inconsistent performance, the Packers are looking to strengthen the linebacker position, and they’ve found a perfect solution.

Packers Set Their Sights on a Potential 2025 Draft Replacement

Despite investing in linebackers during last offseason’s draft, Green Bay is already eyeing the 2025 NFL Draft for reinforcements. In a recent mock draft, the Packers are projected to select Georgia linebacker Jalon Walker in the second round.

Walker is a versatile player who can line up in the middle or rush off the edge. His explosive playmaking ability has been on display for the Bulldogs, where he’s already recorded 1.5 sacks and eight pressures this season. His sideline-to-sideline speed and ability to get into the backfield quickly make him an attractive option for Green Bay’s defense.

“Walker moves like he’s shot out of a cannon,” says ESPN’s Mel Kiper. “He has the speed and agility to beat blockers and make plays on the quarterback or ball carrier.”

Walker’s dynamic skill set could give Matt LaFleur and the Packers a major defensive upgrade, providing the kind of versatility that Quay Walker has struggled to deliver. His potential as both a blitzer and a coverage linebacker would give the Packers much-needed depth and flexibility on defense.

Packers Eye Other Key Additions

In addition to linebacker help, the Packers are also expected to address other areas of need. Ohio State cornerback Denzel Burke has emerged as a potential first-round target, especially with Eric Stokes’ future in Green Bay uncertain. Burke, a first-team All-Big Ten selection, has impressed with his sharp coverage skills and playmaking ability, allowing just one reception and snagging an interception in the early part of the season.

Further depth is being considered at running back as well, despite the Packers already having a strong backfield featuring Josh Jacobs and MarShawn Lloyd. Kansas running back Devin Neal is another potential Day 2 draft selection. Neal, with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, could become a dynamic offensive weapon for LaFleur’s system, offering both rushing and receiving threats.

With these projected additions, the Packers are setting themselves up for future success, addressing key areas on both sides of the ball. As LaFleur and GM Brian Gutekunst continue to refine the roster, the upcoming 2024-2025 season looks promising for Green Bay.
