The New Orleans Pelicans have secured a significant new partnership that will drastically increase their game coverage ahead of the 2024-2025 NBA season. Teaming up with Gray Media, the Pelicans will now have their non-national games broadcast across a wider audience through a new network, the Gulf Coast Sports & Entertainment Network (GCSEN).
This network, spearheaded by Gray’s New Orleans station WVUE (FOX 8 Local First), will extend the Pelicans’ reach to 16 times more households than the team’s previous regional sports network. GCSEN will provide free, over-the-air access to Pelicans games, along with availability on various pay-TV platforms, including basic cable, satellite, and streaming services.
The new network will cover a broad area, broadcasting across Gray’s stations in Louisiana cities like Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Lake Charles, Monroe, and Alexandria. Mississippi markets including Biloxi, Jackson, Hattiesburg, and Meridian will also be part of the distribution, along with Mobile, Alabama.
As a result of this deal, Pelicans games will now be accessible to 4.1 million households, significantly boosting the team’s regional visibility.
“Gray Media is excited to connect Pelicans fans throughout the Gulf South,” said Sandy Breland, Chief Operating Officer of Gray Media. “We’re proud to make the games available free over-the-air and through a range of cable and streaming options.”
Pelicans Governor Gayle Benson added, “This partnership with Gray Media allows us to bring Pelicans basketball to more fans than ever before. It’s a testament to our commitment to the community and our supporters.”
In New Orleans, WVUE will broadcast eight Pelicans regular-season games and all available postseason matchups. The rest of the regular-season games will air on GCSEN. The network’s inaugural broadcast will feature the Pelicans’ season opener against the Chicago Bulls on October 23rd at 7 p.m., airing live on WVUE and simulcast on GCSEN.
This new venture positions the Pelicans to build a stronger connection with fans, offering them greater access to the team throughout the Gulf South region.
