Official NBA Updates: GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. Reveals Shocking Reason Why Young Warriors Player Wouldn’t Be Traded Despite Massive Offer…

The Golden State Warriors were rumored to be considering a blockbuster trade for Utah Jazz superstar Lauri Markkanen during the offseason. However, Markkanen ultimately signed an extension with the Jazz, and the trade never materialized. At the center of the speculation was second-year standout Brandin Podziemski, who was reportedly a key piece in the potential deal.

Despite the tempting offer, the Warriors were firm in their decision not to include Podziemski in any trade negotiations. In an August 28 interview with Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Podziemski revealed that Warriors owner Joe Lacob personally assured him that he was not going anywhere.

“He told me, ‘You don’t have anything to worry about. You’re a priority here,’” Podziemski shared. “As a young player, hearing that from such a prestigious organization feels really good. It shows that I’m wanted here, and I appreciate that.”

Podziemski also praised the transparency of the Warriors’ front office, noting that both Lacob and GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. kept him informed throughout the process, from the draft to the rumors involving Paul George and Lauri Markkanen.

Fans Put Pressure on Podziemski

With the trade rumors behind him, Podziemski now faces the challenge of living up to the expectations of Warriors fans and the media. He acknowledged that there has been skepticism surrounding the team’s decision to keep him instead of making a move for Markkanen.

“From a fan and media perspective, there’s a lot of questioning,” Podziemski said. “People are asking, ‘Why didn’t you trade him? Why keep Brandin?’ It’s cool to know you’re valued by another team for a player like Markkanen, but when the trade doesn’t happen, some people act like it’s my fault. But I’m cool with it.”

Markkanen, 27, had an impressive season last year, averaging 23.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while shooting 39.9% from three-point range. Many believe he could have been the perfect addition for a Warriors team looking to win now and secure a long-term star for the future.

Should the Warriors Have Traded Podziemski?

If the hold-up in a deal with the Jazz was indeed Podziemski, the Warriors clearly have a lot of faith in the 21-year-old’s potential to become an elite player. While Markkanen could have been a game-changing acquisition, the Warriors’ decision suggests they see Podziemski as a cornerstone for the future.

Podziemski, despite the pressure, remains confident in his ability to meet and exceed expectations. “For me, in anything in life, when you do something well, expectations come with it,” he said. “I’m not going into games thinking about it. I know the work I’ve put in this offseason, and I know how much better I’ve become. I have high expectations for myself, but I’m just going to be me.”

As the Warriors look to bounce back from their disappointing Play-In exit last season, they will rely on Podziemski to continue his development and contribute to the team’s success.
