The New Orleans Pelicans have made a key addition to their roster by signing former Boston Celtics swingman Javonte Green to a one-year deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Green, known for his explosive athleticism, played 48 games during the 2019-20 season with the Celtics before being traded to the Chicago Bulls as part of a package deal when Boston moved on from Daniel Theis in 2020-21. The 31-year-old found more opportunities in Chicago, where he began to elevate his game despite dealing with injuries that impacted his career.
Last season, Green returned to the Bulls in a utility role and managed to make a solid impact. Over nine games, he averaged 12.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and nearly 1.0 blocks in 25.6 minutes per game. He also showed his shooting range by hitting 37 percent of his 3.0 three-point attempts.
Now, Green has the chance to continue building on that momentum with the Pelicans, where he will reunite with Daniel Theis and contribute to the team’s efforts to reach the playoffs with star Zion Williamson. This signing is seen as a positive move for the Pelicans as they strengthen their roster for the upcoming season
