SAD NEWS: Manager Shares Worrying Fitness Updates with Two Key Players Out of the Starting Roster Ahead of Dodgers vs. Mariners’ Series Opener…

The Los Angeles Dodgers have yet to officially announce the corresponding roster moves for two of their most anticipated returns this season: center fielder/shortstop Tommy Edman and third baseman Max Muncy.

However, it seems Nick Ahmed and Andy Pages will be the ones to make way. According to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, both players have cleared out their lockers ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Seattle Mariners.

Since both Edman and Muncy were on the 60-day injured list, their activation necessitates the Dodgers make space for them on both the 40-man and 26-man rosters.

Ahmed, a seasoned veteran, is out of minor league options, which likely means he will be designated for assignment. After signing with the Dodgers as a free agent in July, Ahmed appeared in 17 games, hitting .229 with one home run and two RBIs while providing solid defensive play at shortstop.

Pages, a 23-year-old rookie, has posted a .246 batting average with nine home runs and 36 RBIs. Like many rookies, he’s experienced the highs and lows of a debut season, occasionally stabilizing the Dodgers’ lineup and outfield, but also struggling defensively in center field and enduring periods where hits were hard to come by.

Overall, Pages has a .246/.305/.388 slash line with nine home runs and 36 RBIs. He has seen action at all three outfield positions as well as designated hitter.

When the Dodgers acquired Edman from the Cardinals with the intention of having him play center field, it signaled that Pages’ time with the team might be limited. Edman, 29, has a career slash line of .265/.319/.408 and has earned a Gold Glove. He missed the entire first half of the season due to wrist surgery in the offseason.

In his minor league rehab assignments with both the Cardinals’ and Dodgers’ affiliates, Edman hit .239 with one home run and a stolen base across Double-A and Triple-A.

Muncy, 33, has been sidelined since May as he recovered from an oblique injury. The Dodgers have struggled to fill the offensive void at third base in his absence.

Since 2018, Muncy has hit at least 20 home runs in every non-pandemic season. Prior to his injury, he had nine home runs and 28 RBIs in 40 games, providing a much-needed boost to a Dodgers lineup that has faced challenges in generating offense from the middle and lower parts of the order.
