There’s been considerable buzz about the futures of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, albeit for different reasons.
Prescott is entering the final year of his contract with Dallas, while Belichick could theoretically return to coaching in 2025, a year after departing from New England.
There is a possibility that Prescott and Belichick could team up in Dallas if the Cowboys decide to move on from Mike McCarthy should they fall short of expectations this season. However, Nick Wright presented another intriguing idea on FS1’s “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”
“I’ve been saying it, and I’ll keep saying it. I really think the Dak Prescott-Bill Belichick package deal to the New York Giants a year from now is going to happen,” Wright stated. “I think Bill gets to end where he started. The Giants get to rebrand entirely and steal the Cowboys’ quarterback. And Dak gets something like three years, $200 million guaranteed. That’s where this thing ends up going.”
This would indeed be shocking. It’s uncommon for a quarterback of Prescott’s caliber to hit unrestricted free agency, and it’s widely believed the Cowboys will go to great lengths to retain their Pro Bowl QB. Additionally, Brian Daboll won NFL Coach of the Year with the Giants just a year ago, making this scenario even more unexpected.

But that’s the nature of the NFL—expect the unexpected.
“I think the Cowboys are terrified of being locked into a ceiling with Dak Prescott,” Wright added. “And regarding the money, everyone saying ‘Dak could get $57, $58 million’ — that’s not accurate. It’s a minimum of $60 million, probably $65 million a year — and I don’t think the Cowboys are going to pay it. If they were going to, they would have already.”
The Cowboys are coming off a 2023 season where they finished 12-5 but lost to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round of the NFC playoffs. Meanwhile, the Giants ended their season 6-11, missing the postseason.
