Golden State Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski didn’t always have basketball as his main focus growing up. His dad hoped he would pursue a career in baseball, but ultimately, Podziemski chose basketball—a decision he doesn’t regret given his successful career.

“My mom was always supportive, no matter what I chose. But my dad had high hopes for me in baseball, a path he couldn’t follow himself and wanted me to succeed in.
“It was a tough conversation. I remember we were driving back from a tournament in Nashville, and I told him, ‘I don’t think I want to play baseball anymore. Basketball is my passion now, and that’s where I want to focus.’”
In college, Podziemski played for the Illinois Fighting Illini before transferring to the Santa Clara Broncos for his sophomore year. With the Broncos, he became a standout player, averaging 19.9 points on 48.3 percent shooting from the field and 43.8 percent from three-point range, along with 8.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
The Warriors noticed Podziemski’s talent and selected him 19th overall in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft.
