Earlier this week, the Pittsburgh Penguins made headlines by signing WHL Champion Brayden Yager to a three-year, entry-level deal.

Hailing from Saskatoon, Yager started his hockey journey in Prince Albert before moving back to Saskatoon with his family at the age of 11.

Selected 14th overall by the Penguins in the 2023 NHL Draft, the 19-year-old has spent the last four seasons with the Warriors. This past season, Yager racked up an impressive 95 points (35G-60A) and ranked third in the playoffs with 27 points (11G-16A), leading his team to a WHL Championship.

During the Memorial Cup in Saginaw, Yager notched six points (3G-3A) in four games and earned a spot on the tournament’s All-Star Team. His accolades don’t stop there; he was named the WHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player for both 2023 and 2024. Representing Canada at the 2024 World Junior Championship, he secured second place in team scoring with five points (2G-3A) in five games.
