Byron Buxton Leaves Game Early After Getting Hit in Forearm by 96 mph Pitch
The last thing Minnesota Twins fans wanted to see was Byron Buxton exiting early with an injury.
As the Minnesota Twins battle injury woes, Byron Buxton’s latest scare is another challenge they didn’t need. Minnesota began the second half of the season with Carlos Correa and Royce Lewis on the IL, joined by Jose Miranda and Kody Funderburk. Lewis and Miranda have started rehab assignments in St. Paul, but the Twins are trying to close the gap on Cleveland in the AL Central without three of their key players.
Adding Buxton to that list would be a nightmare scenario.
Twins fans were alarmed on Wednesday when Buxton left the series finale against Philadelphia after being hit on the forearm by a pitch. He stayed in the game initially but walked gingerly to first base without flexing his fist.
The scene was eerily reminiscent of Correa’s injury in June against the Diamondbacks, which also initially appeared worse than it was.
Latest Byron Buxton Injury Update After Getting Hit by a Pitch vs. Phillies
Shortly after Buxton exited the game, the Twins provided an update that seems positive. Early indications suggest Buxton is dealing with a right forearm contusion rather than a broken bone.
That collective sigh of relief from Twins fans was palpable.

Correa’s similar incident in June, where he left a game holding his arm and slamming his helmet in frustration, turned out to be less severe. He boldly proclaimed he’d be in the lineup the next game, a promise he fulfilled.
Buxton’s injury history is more checkered than Correa’s, but he has managed to avoid anything serious this season. While he didn’t play a single inning in the field last season, Buxton has been the team’s everyday centerfielder and has returned to elite performance levels.
Most importantly, Buxton has remained healthy this year, with only minor setbacks along the way. This seems to be another minor issue, although Twins fans can’t be blamed for fearing the worst, especially given the recent injury troubles with their star players.
