Every Summer League, an undrafted player typically rises to prominence, proving their worth against NBA competition in front of front offices and coaching staffs. This year, the San Antonio Spurs may have found such a gem in Riley Minix, an undrafted forward out of Morehead State, who signed a training camp contract with the Spurs on Saturday.
Minix’s journey in the NBA Draft was remarkable. As a former NAIA star, he dominated in his sole Division One season at Morehead State, averaging 20.9 points and 9.17 rebounds in his senior year. He shined in the NCAA Tournament, scoring 27 points and hitting five three-pointers in a first-round loss to Illinois. His unique offensive skill set allows him to score both on the low block and the wing.

During the Summer League, Minix showcased his talent with two double-digit scoring performances, including 16 points against the Pelicans and 14 points against the Raptors. His ability to space the floor was a valuable asset for San Antonio. Summer League coach Kenny Trevino praised Minix for his strength and scoring ability throughout the Las Vegas Summer League.

Minix will enter training camp with a chance to earn a two-way roster spot. Currently, the Spurs have Jamaree Bouyea occupying one two-way spot, with second-round pick Harrison Ingram likely to receive the second spot. Minix is a leading candidate for the final two-way contract, competing with any outside prospects the Spurs might bring in. Dominick Barlow, who has not yet signed a contract, remains a contender as well.
The Spurs will get a closer look at Minix and the other prospects when training camp starts in September.
