Confirmed the Signing of the 22-year-old Sensational Star to a Contract Worth…
Anton Lundell and the Florida Panthers have agreed to a six-year, $30 million contract, ensuring that the Stanley Cup champions retain all eight of their leading scorers as they prepare to defend their title.
Lundell, previously a restricted free agent, had an impressive season with 13 goals and 22 assists in 78 games for the Panthers. His performance was even more remarkable in the playoffs, where he tallied 17 points in 24 games, contributing significantly to the Panthers’ Stanley Cup victory.
The final of those 17 playoff points was an assist that set up Carter Verhaeghe’s opening goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. The Panthers defeated Edmonton 2-1 to clinch the franchise’s first title.
“Anton has matured into a dependable multirole center for our club, who seized his opportunity from his first day in North America,” said Panthers president of hockey operations and general manager Bill Zito. “His commitment to improvement and cerebral approach to the game earned him the profound respect of his teammates and coaches, and we are excited to see him continue to grow and succeed with the Panthers.”
The 22-year-old Finnish center has spent three seasons with the Panthers since being selected as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2020 draft. He has accumulated 43 goals and 69 assists in 216 games.
With Lundell now locked in, the Panthers have secured even more of their core for the future. Lundell, captain Aleksander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, and Gustav Forsling are all under contract through at least the 2029-30 season.
In addition to Lundell’s signing, the Panthers finalized a one-year deal with defenseman Nate Schmidt on Wednesday. The 32-year-old veteran, who has played with four other NHL clubs, most recently with Winnipeg, will be reunited with Florida coach Paul Maurice.
“Nate is a veteran puck-moving defenseman who we expect to seamlessly integrate with our style of play,” Zito said. “We are excited to welcome him to our club for the 2024-25 season.”
These strategic moves ensure that the Panthers remain a formidable force as they aim for another successful season.
