Breaking: Steve Sarkisian Names 3 Texas Players to Watch in the 2024-2025 Season…

As the 2024 football season approaches, three players are emerging as leaders during summer strength and conditioning for Texas.

With the inaugural SEC season and preseason camp in early August on the horizon, head coach Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Longhorns are wrapping up their summer workouts. Just over 50 days from the start of the regular season, fans eagerly await the first glimpse of many new faces in pads and helmets.

Texas Football Sees New Leaders Emerge Ahead of 2024 Camp

This offseason has given the team ample time to gel. Most players entering the SEC this fall were early enrollees who participated in spring practice. With over a dozen signees from the 2024 class via high school recruiting and the transfer portal, Texas is well-positioned at key positions despite some roster turnover. The Longhorns haven’t needed many immediate impact summer enrollees to excel right away.

Nevertheless, a few summer enrollees have stood out during strength and conditioning over the past month. Here are three key players who have emerged as leaders during summer workouts:

Gunnar Helm, Texas football

Gavin Holmes, CB

One of the most improved players this offseason is senior cornerback Gavin Holmes. Competing with San Jose State transfer Jay’Vion Cole for the starting field corner job, Holmes has demonstrated the right mindset and work ethic to excel in this position battle. Not only has he improved his speed and technique, but he has also become a more effective leader in the locker room.

On Texas Football reported on July 11 that Holmes is “hungrier than last year” and is taking on a larger leadership role compared to last season. After transferring last offseason, he is poised to make a significant impact this year.
