FSU Football Misses Out on Four-Star Offensive Lineman to Miami Hurricanes
Florida State University (FSU) suffered a setback in their offensive line recruiting efforts on Wednesday, but still have promising prospects to track.
As June came to a close, several recruits with ties to Florida State made their decisions. Earlier this week, the Seminoles secured commitments from four-star defensive tackle Kevin Wynn and four-star wide receiver CJ Wiley. However, they can’t win every recruiting battle.

On Wednesday evening, four-star offensive lineman Max Buchanan announced his commitment following the Rivals Five-Star Challenge. After evaluating his options throughout the month, Buchanan chose the Miami Hurricanes over Florida State, Penn State, Clemson, UCF, and Ole Miss.
A Florida native, Buchanan was one of the prospects FSU was heavily pursuing to bolster their offensive line. At one point, the Seminoles were even considered the frontrunner to land Buchanan, who is a high school teammate of #Tribe25 commit and four-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard. Now, FSU will need to regroup and consider the possibility of flipping Buchanan later in the recruiting cycle.
Despite this loss, Florida State already has a top offensive lineman in their class with the commitment of five-star Solomon Thomas, who is versatile enough to play both inside and outside at the next level. Additionally, FSU might soon add four-star guard Peyton Joseph, who is set to announce his decision between FSU and Memphis on July 4. Joseph recently visited Tallahassee for an official visit over the weekend.
Buchanan, who started at left tackle for Seminole High School’s playoff-qualifying team last season, stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 275 pounds. He is ranked as the No. 238 overall prospect, the No. 13 interior offensive lineman, and the No. 36 recruit in Florida for the 2025 class according to 247Sports.
Currently, Florida State holds six verbal commitments in their #Tribe25 class, which ranks No. 64 in the country.
