DL Target Mykah Newton Sets Commitment Date

Florida defensive end Mykah Newton is set to make his college decision next month.

NC State has secured a handful of commitments in the past week, but there’s still work to be done in the 2025 recruiting cycle for the Wolfpack. One prospect NC State is eager to add to its class is Newberry (Fla.) defensive end Mykah Newton. On Tuesday, the 6-foot-2, 255-pound Newton announced he will make his college commitment on July 18 at his high school at 4 p.m.

Newton officially visited NC State from June 7-9, and the trip made a favorable impression on the Sunshine State standout.

“The trip was amazing,” Newton said earlier this month. “I loved everything about it—the area, coaching staff, and players. Everyone made it feel similar to home, and I really liked it.

“NC State was already in a good spot before the visit, but the trip helped them even more. One of the highlights was how involved Coach Doeren was in the visit. Also, another thing that stood out was how cool the players were. I really liked how they put the visit together. You could tell they put a lot of time and thought into it.”

Newton’s lead recruiter for the Wolfpack is veteran defensive line coach Charley Wiles. The two quickly built a strong relationship during the recruiting process. One of the biggest reasons Newton thinks so highly of Wiles is the veteran assistant’s honesty.

“He’s the most transparent person ever,” Newton said a few weeks ago. “He’s going to keep it real with you. His brother is actually from a small town near our school, so he knows the area.

“Throughout the visit, he reemphasized how important I am to them and this class. He told me that a lot. He said I’m a perfect fit and that I would benefit from playing in their scheme. He said I’d be able to display my versatility.”

Newton, who is also considering UCF and Michigan State, had a breakout junior season, totaling 62 tackles, including 26 for loss and 13 sacks, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
