The New York Yankees are reportedly eyeing one of the standout names of the 2024 season as they gear up for the trade deadline.
In a recent article, Jon Heyman of the New York Post identified left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet as the top trade target for the struggling 20-56 Chicago White Sox. Heyman highlighted that the Yankees are particularly interested in Crochet’s talent and potential.
Garrett Crochet, 25, started his career as a reliever but has transitioned into a full-time starter this season with remarkable success. He has been a rare bright spot for the White Sox, posting a 6-6 record with a 3.25 ERA, a 0.95 WHIP, and an American League-leading 124 strikeouts. Additionally, Crochet has two more years of arbitration eligibility after this season, making him an even more attractive trade candidate.
Despite the recent return of reigning AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole from injury, the Yankees are looking to bolster their rotation, particularly with dynamic left-handers. While Nestor Cortes and Carlos Rodon have been reliable this season, Crochet’s strikeout ability could provide a significant boost.
Currently boasting the best record in MLB at 51-26, the Yankees appear to be stockpiling pitching talent for a postseason run, having recently signed another left-handed pitcher.
