Brian Snitker: “We’re Planning on Winning the NL East”
Facing an eight-game deficit in the NL East and grappling with numerous injuries, most teams might start considering the Wild Card race. However, the Braves are not most teams.
When asked if his team might prefer staying fresh and competing in a Wild Card series rather than taking a week off due to a first-round bye, Braves manager Brian Snitker dismissed the idea entirely.
“I’m not planning on doing a Wild Card series,” Snitker stated firmly. “We’re planning on winning the NL East.”
Braves’ Determination Amid Adversity
Despite a challenging season marred by offensive struggles and injuries, there’s no reason to doubt the Braves’ ability to catch the Phillies in the division. While fans and media may ponder alternatives, the team remains focused on their primary goal.
The Wild Card Conundrum
Since the playoffs expanded, the Wild Card series has gained prominence, especially in the National League. The Braves and Dodgers have received first-round byes to the NLDS in the past two seasons, only to combine for just three total wins. Extended rest poses legitimate concerns for baseball teams, particularly with maintaining offensive rhythm. A five-day break can disrupt a team’s flow, making it difficult to find their groove in a five-game series.
Winning the Division: A Legacy
Despite these concerns, the Braves’ goal remains unchanged: winning the division. Over the last 30+ years, no other organization has been as successful in securing the NL East title. This long-standing tradition fuels their unwavering ambition.

Overcoming Adversity
The Braves have faced significant challenges in recent years, yet they have consistently risen to the occasion. They overcame devastating injuries to win the World Series and erased a 10.5-game deficit to clinch the NL East. Their resilience and determination suggest that overcoming their current eight-game hole is well within their capabilities.
As the Braves head into the critical stretch of the season, their sights are set firmly on reclaiming the NL East title, proving once again why they are one of the most formidable teams in baseball.
